I was born in bustling East New York (Brooklyn), New York. For a few early years I doted on my mom’s every move until she passed away when I was five years old. Having begun school without the confidence instilled by a mother’s comforting words, I found myself in the slow reader section of my third grade class. Then this happened…
I spelled “advantageous.” This moved me from the slow to the advanced section of the classroom. The teacher sent me home with a note to my dad. That was nice. But what I remember most about that day is falling in love with words. That is when I began spending most of my days reading and writing. My love of words made me believe I could do whatever I put my mind to no matter what.
That pivotal day rooted the educational courage and confidence I needed, as a motherless girl, to pursue my education and dreams. I became a CPA to work in the country’s largest corporations successfully leading multi-million dollar financial projects. I’ve served on corporate executive boards, won multiple leadership awards, traveled internationally to train staff, founded several companies, and authored many articles and books. As an executive leader I use my passion for mission and vision to create organizations and initiatives that help others develop the skills and confidence to lead successful lives.
It is, however, raising two daughters who believe in their inherent worth and abilities (and are quite successful in their own career fields) that is one of my greatest joys and successes. What a privilege it has been to see them blossom into young women who believe in the possibilities of their dreams.
That third grade day changed what I believed about my intelligence and abilities. I have been on mission throughout my career to help others, especially children, develop the belief and reading skills to lead successful lives. This, is why I write.
I chose the author name – Honey Moore – in honor of my Grandmother – Pearl Moore who is the sweetest woman I have ever known.
Why Skye Pie Publishing
Good books do wonders for a child’s imagination. It is a great joy to see a smile spread across a child’s face as their eyes, heart and mind engage a story. In addition to being good for the heart, reading increases literacy skills, reading confidence and sense of self-value.
I study articles and reports on the reading progress of elementary school children. Some of the statistics are heartbreaking. Stories that engage children’s hearts and minds are some of the greatest tools to help increase their reading proficiency and belief of what’s possible for their lives.
